We had such a fun time planning a surprise party for Lindsay’s 30th birthday! Her adorable hubby had a great time getting creative with the details of the event…wanting it to be truly unique! We combined a hip-hop violinist, an ice cream sundae bar with a rooftop deck in the summertime and the results were amazing!

Thanks to Plum Sage Flowers for the lush florals, Chair Covers & Linens for the beautiful silky linens, Shamane’s Bake Shoppe for her lovely cake and cupcakes, Maestro Hughes and DJ Shake One for the tunes all night and the excellent Bacaro Venetian Tavern for the amazing venue!

Special thanks to Chris from Premium Digital Solutions for the photos!

Beaver Creek Wedding | Sarah and John

Monday, November 8th, 2010
519-11

Sarah and John’s wedding happened on a bright and sunny August day in the adorable town of Beaver Creek, Colorado. The ceremony was held at the Beaver Creek Chapel, where sunlight streamed through the large stained-glass window as they gave their vows. The beautiful bouquets and flowers were all created by the talented Plum Sage Florist.

The cocktail hour and reception were held at a beautiful private home in the Mountain Star neighborhood of Avon, Colorado and guests were transported there in shuttles provided by All Mountain Transportation. The guests enjoyed the warm night under clean white tenting provided by Colorado Party Rentals and enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres and dinner buffet which were created by Vail Catering Concepts. The guests danced the night away with the great tunes from the Don Watson Band - they were awesome!

Special thanks to Pettit Photography for these amazing images! Kent was incredibly professional, highly experienced and genuinely interested in capturing the intimacies of the day.

Congratulations to Sarah and John!

Wedding Lighting 101

colorado_wedding_lighting

Lighting can have a dramatic effect on your wedding ceremony and reception. There are many options for adding lighting ambiance to your Colorado wedding ceremony and reception. Here are the basic types of lighting:

Pin spot - A focused beam of light that shines directly onto an object, like a centerpiece or wedding cake, as a highlight effect.

Color wash - There are a few different types of light fixtures that can create a “wash,” which is basically a blanket of colored light covering an entire area.

Gobos - Circular stencils that are put over a light to project a design or pattern. Popular gobo designs are monograms, dates, or any other wedding motifs. The complexity of the design will affect the gobo’s cost — a simple stencil can be stamped out of steel, while a more intricate design must be laser etched out of stainless steel or a glass that can withstand high heat (costing much more than a stamped stencil).

Led - {light-emitting diodes} LED lights are currently popular for weddings because they use much less electricity than regular, incandescent light bulbs. They can sometimes be wireless and very discreet. LEDs are great for color changes and vibrant colors. They’re also common in strands and good for accent lighting.

On Thursday, we will talk about Wedding Lighting Part Two. We’ll talk about choosing the correct lights and color for your Colorado wedding.

Christy and Gabe were such an amazing couple to work with. Even though the bride lived in two different states during the planning process, we made sure every detail was covered!

Their beautiful wedding couldn’t have had a better day in Breckenridge Colorado, where the sun was bright and the blue sky looked like it could go on forever.  The ceremony and reception were held at Ten Mile Station, a venue that we love at Save the Date Events. It is part ski lodge, part wedding site and is perfect for any mountain lover!

The lovely flowers were created by Petal and Bean, who also made an etched C&G base for her Wish Tree, and found Christy a perfect deep Merlot aisle runner. The ceremony music was provided by Sister’s Quartet, and the beautiful ceremony was given by Pastor Rasmussen. We loved the two flawless cakes that were baked by Intricate Icings as well.

Holly Canfield couldn’t have done a better job with the stationary items, they were amazing! The DJ provided by A Music Plus had the guests dancing all night!

Thank you so much to Robert from Fine Art Weddings for these gorgeous photographs!

This incredibly amazing couple got married at Wild Horse Inn on 4th of July Weekend and what a crazy fun evening that was! The sweet wedding ceremony was held outside in the warm breezy weather, and then the party moved under a white tent decorated with lights and fabric. The beautiful flowers were designed by Pick Me! Floral Design and they did an incredible job.

The food was provided by Wild Horse Catering and was delicious. Guests were also treated to a dessert buffet created by Sweet Celebrations - SO delicious!

Ashley and Kyle had some serious dancers, I wish I could have the playlist from the reception. The tunes were provided by Mike from A Music Plus and it took super efforts to stop myself feet from dancing. At the end of the evening we opened the Scotch and Cigar Bar which was a huge hit with their wedding guests.

I loved planning with Ashley and Kyle for their Colorado wedding. They are incredibly genuine and had amazing families and friends.

Special thanks to the super team at Colorado Wedding Photograhers: Jason+Gina to a fabulous job!

Allix and Nate have been wonderful to work with! We are planning their wedding at Planet Bluegrass on 4th of July weekend, 2011. Every time I spend time with them (attempting to work), I end up spending half of it laughing hysterically. Seriously amazing couple.

Real Wedding Denver | Betina and Ken

Monday, July 26th, 2010
brumm_wed_130-1

It was a beautiful day in June when Betina and Ken got married at Boettcher Mansion in Golden, Colorado. It was a sunny and breezy day, with a short mountain burst of rain that did not stop this outside ceremony on the patio of the mansion. The wedding guests were all formally dressed at this black tie wedding, where the reception fare included a multiple course dinner experience catered by Footers Catering along with wine pairings specially chosen by the bride and groom. The beautiful flowers were created by Annie Aubert, and she did an amazing job!

The delicious cake was provided by Intricate Icings and was gone in a flash. The guests were dancing (including tango) to the tunes of Quality Mobile Sounds and the parents had some relief thanks to the helpful staff of Wedding Sitters by Charity. It was a beautiful evening, the bride looked lovely(thanks to Makeup by Janine) and it was a pleasure to work with this couple!

Special thanks to Julie and Chris from Sharber Photography for these amazing images.

Ask Gabby:Wedding Etiquette for the Contemporary Bride 2

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

rsvp2Dear Gabby,

I recently moved to Denver from a small town, where a couple invites close friends and family, not friend+date. Here, it is different. People who attend weddings are assumed to need the security of a partner in order to comfortably celebrate the event. And this person is often a stranger to the bride and groom. My fiancee and I just got engaged but are in a disagreement about this - I do NOT want strangers at my wedding, and he is perfectly okay with it. I consider a wedding as something intimate and private and also very special. How can I get around this trend without seeming rude?

Sincerely, Frustrated Bride

Dear Frustrated Bride,

I understand the desire to keep such a special day close to your heart (and family/friend circle!) My general suggestion is to ask yourself if you know the surname of the individual that your guest wants to bring as a date. If the pair have been dating and you have formed a relationship with the other person, it would be considerate to invite them on behalf of your guest. However, guests who are reading this should never assume that a wedding invitation addressed to you as an individual is actually a ticket-for-two unless specifically spelled out that way. Lastly, for any guests who inquire about bringing an unknown date, you may say “We are only inviting people we know to the wedding, but would love to meet her another time…” Sincere. To the point.

My Favorite Boulder Rehearsal Dinner Spots!

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

boulder1

Boulder Colorado is known for it’s breathtaking views of the Flat Irons and the quirky, whimsical Pearl Street Mall. What a perfect place to have your Rehearsal Dinner (or Welcome Dinner, or Bridesmaids Brunch) Here are my top favorite places:

The Foundry - This laid-back bar and grill has one of the best views in town and they love to host parties on their rooftop deck. The food is familiar and the prices are great.

Lazy Dog - The rooftop deck at the Lazy Dog can seat up to 100 people! Host your entire wedding on this deck with a full bar and stunning views.

Jill’s at the St. Julien Hotel - This stunning, contemporary fine dining restaurant boasts bold lighting fixtures, an amazing bar and exquisite entrees.

Bacaro Venetian Taverna - Bacaro has a beautiful sunny deck that can seat up to 200 people! The deck has lovely hanging glass lights, adorable chalkboards and chandeliers that add a romantic touch.

The Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant - The Rio is known for their margaritas, and they have a great rooftop deck. What more could you ask for?

Bachelorette Party Ideas in Denver

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Today we wanted to share with you some fabulous ideas for your special Girls Night Out aka The Bachelorette Partay! While the boys are having their own fun, the ladies can have some seriously exciting activities of their own. Drum roll…Let me introduce the hottest dance studio in town, Tease Studio.Tease can offer customized one-hour parties for the bachelorette and her ladies that can focus on pole dancing, lap dancing and burlesque. This is a fun way to start your night out, and they are conveniently located close to downtown!

We also love the idea of some serious pampering! For this, we turn to the experts at Tootsies - The Nail Shoppe. Tootsies focuses on extremely sanitary nail care (as well as the reputation for keeping the nail polish on longer than anywhere else - how do they do that??) For your bachelorette party, Tootsies is a great choice because they have so much experience, have a fantastic atmosphere and prepare complimentary Hpnotiq “Tootsies Toniq” cocktails for these parties!

If you want to use either of these fabulous ideas, consult your wedding coordinator to plan these parties!

Thank you SO much to Fuse Photographic for these stunning and adorable photos of Holly & Seth’s engagement shoot. These two are so skilled at art and design, and love incorporating their love of a beautiful aesthetic into their wedding at Chatfield Gardens in August.

I am dying over the ice cream and the vintage Polaroid shots, and cannot stop laughing at their adorable faces inside their initials - too funny!

This engagement shoot is funky fresh and I am loving it! Thanks again to Holly & Seth, and the talented Fuse Photographic!

All About Guest Welcome Bags!

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010
welcome-gift-bags2

Many of our clients at Save the Date Events are from out of state and have chosen Colorado for the beautiful mountains, fresh clean air and big blue skies. The guests who will travel far and wide to attend your Colorado wedding would love a Colorado welcome bag upon check in at their hotel. The Welcome Bag gained popularity more recently due to the increase in destination weddings, but are commonly given to guests if many of them are traveling great distances to a wedding. Couples should take advantage and offer a warm welcome to guests, as well as set the tone for your wedding weekend’s series of events.

The cost of offering welcome bags can be curbed in a couple ways; you can find out if many friends are sharing a room and double-stuff just one welcome bag for them to share. Also, remember you do not need to make one welcome bag per guest, but rather one welcome bag per room. Many hotels will assist in handing these bags out as your guests check-in, or they will deliver the bags directly to the guest’s rooms for a nominal fee. Include essentials that will make their stay more comfortable such as bottled water and a small snack. Also include your wedding weekend itinerary, with times and locations of where the happy couple will be and any shuttle information they may need. It is also important to include an item or two that is locally made or grown, such as Izze Soda, made locally in Boulder Colorado. For Colorado brides, it is popular to include a reminder on high altitude tips. A hand-written thank you note should always be included in the welcome bag. Your professional wedding consultant will have many more ideas and suggestions.

Stylish and Modern Bridesmaid Gowns

bridesmaid-dress-fashions

Bridesmaid gowns are always thought of as the-dress-that-I-will-never-wear-again, and they sure don’t have to be! With today’s bridesmaid fashions, many of the dresses you can find are beautifully elegant and can work for another event or a night out on the town. In the above collage are some of our favorite designers, and we just adore these gowns. The styles and shapes we have found lately really range from floor-length gowns to mini-skirts. Traditionally the bridesmaids would all wear the exact same gown. However, there are contemporary twists to the old tradition. Bridesmaids can each wear different gowns, yet in the same color. It is also lovely to see the wedding attendants wearing a similar color to the bridal gown, such as ivory or champagne. The result is a stunning vision in ivory. Another unique twist is to coordinate the bridesmaid gowns with your theme. For example, at a vintage wedding the bride can have her attendants each wear a different vintage gown and but all wear the same shoe.

For more ideas, you can visit the lovely ladies at Bella Bridesmaid.

Designers found in this collage are:

Alix+Kelly, Jenny Yoo, Jim Hjelm, Lazaro, Lela Rose, Lulu Kate, and Vera Wang

What Vintage Means to You - Part VII

Friday, April 23rd, 2010
80s-90s vintage weddings

The eighties! A time of big hair and really big shoulder pads.

The fabrics of the era were stretchy (think Lycra), shiny, glittery and exciting. Consider getting a shorter-length dress from www.eliesaab.com and www.inesdisanto.com, or one with major shoulder action. Your bridesmaids should be wearing dresses that look like those out of a 1980s prom – bright colors (hot pink! neon blue!) and lots of taffeta or satin, preferably with off-the-shoulder sleeves. Add ankle boots and short gloves and voila – you’ve made it!

Hair should be down and slightly teased, and makeup should be bold. Think of doing blue eyeshadow.

Your linens should be bright and bold colors in stretch Lycra fabric, and think of doing paper flowers instead of real ones, made out of neon-colored paper. Of course you would want to hire an 80s cover band to really set the mood, and to complete the look you could rent a black and white checkered dance floor.
