Who wouldn’t adore being on top of a mountain in Beaver Creek on a beautiful summer day? This is where Lindsey and Tom chose to bring all of their out-of-state guests for their wedding. Their friends and family enjoyed a ride up the ski lift to the ceremony while bagpipes played in the distance. After enjoying a very magnificent ceremony view, guests made their way inside Spruce Saddle, which carried the views inside throughout the rest of the evening.

The design for this wedding was soft, romantic, and summery. The gorgeous flowers brought this design to life with creamy colors and pops of happy yellow and green. The bride has a love of sugar, so we made sure to highlight their dessert table with a luxurious linen, filling it with cupcakes, cake pops and a gorgeous cake designed after Lindsey’s lace gown. Then we surrounded all of it with woodsy flowers, candlelight, and drapery. The guests danced the night away and later even chanted the photographers’ names in excitement of the gorgeous photos they had previewed earlier. Studio JK, you are rockstars! Starry Night Photo Shoot

For this wedding styled shoot, I wanted to speak to those artsy couples who love to spend their weekends strolling through museums and whose itch for travel has brought them steps away from maybe the Mona Lisa or the Colosseum. But most of all, I wanted to show brides that they can take their love for absolutely anything — even if it’s different, edgy, or artistic — and bring it to life on their wedding day.

To demonstrate this idea in the styled shoot, I chose the dreamy painting Starry Night by Van Gogh to serve as a muse. I wanted to capture the intense colors, movement, textured brush strokes, and iconic shapes within the painting and reflect those signature elements in each aspect of the shoot.

The amazing vendor team and I decided to put a lot of emphasis on lighting to act as the stars falling from the sky and swirling in the surrounding space. From there we just tried to follow the colors, atmosphere, and shapes in the painting by using shades of deep blue, green, yellow, and texture where we could.

Intricate Icings recreated different scenes from the painting and carefully painted them onto each section of the cake. Each section of the painted cake was placed on a shelf and then suspended from the ceiling for a three-dimensional effect that allowed the cake to double as both dessert and art. Plum Sage Flowers included a mix of fresh and tissue paper flowers in blue glass to bring texture and depth to the scenery as well as keeping the arrangement in a swirling shape on the table.

We chose two brides for this shoot in order to show a contrast between a more traditional, textured white gown (Vera Wang) and a dramatic dark-blue gown (Tara Latour, for the more daring bride).

One of my favorite moments of this shoot was when the photographers, Harper Point Photography, projected a large image of the actual painting onto a wall of draped ivory fabric. It really felt like the models were briefly whisked away into a live version of the painting!

We hope a shoot like this can inspire brides to really take something they love in life, whether it is an art piece, music, food, or a special location, and carry it out on their wedding day. This concept can really transform your wedding into a different world and truly bring your dreams alive on your special day.

When we first meet with our clients, we ask if they have any ideas that they want to incorporate in their wedding. Usually they tell us it is a color, a certain kind of music or style of food service. When I asked Kate and Matt this question, they both said BEER! I thought to myself, now there is some real inspiration, I am surprised I haven’t heard that before. We set to work taking a beer theme to a whole new level. We named each table after Kate and Matt’s favorite microbrews—it was a hard job but Matt had to spend the 9 months of planning trying every beer he could to make sure the perfect beers were featured at the wedding. The guests found their seating assignments on a custom made beer wall and each table had an aspen wrapped beer bucket that featured the beer that their table was named after. Guests could help themselves when they sat down and fill their custom beer glasses.

Aside from beer, Kate and Matt really wanted to highlight the natural beauty of Spruce Mountain and we couldn’t agree more. We kept the color palette very neutral and brought in natural items to accent the beautiful venue. The ceremony took place on the mountain side, the rain stopped and the clouds parted right as Kate walked down the aisle to beautiful music from Michael Lancaster. We lined the aisle with dried lavender for a touch of natural color. We used mason jars filled with fluffy white flowers, succulents and seed pods to adorn the chairs lining the aisle. Succulents and lavender floated above the bride and groom in glass orbs. The guests were surprised to see that Michael Lancaster had changed into his bagpiper attire and proceeded to lead all of the guests from the ceremony site to cocktail hour.

Guests enjoyed wonderful appetizers on the Ames patio while Blue Canyon Boys played amazing blue grass music. As guests made their way into the reception, they found their names on a custom made beer wall. A warm amber glow was created with up-lights around the room and bistro lights strung across the ceiling; soft white draping brought an elegant comfort to the room. Long banquet tables added a comfortable feel to the room with burlap runners, aspen tree wrapped beer buckets, and wood boxes filled with white flowers, sage, succulents, and rosemary. Each napkin was rolled and wrapped with a small piece of aspen birch with a stem of rosemary was placed on top. We created something a little special for the head table; not only did we have florals on the table but we created a hanging centerpiece with 100 green garden roses and orbs that held candles, succulents and lavender. Hanging centerpieces are my new favorite way to frame the head table!

Catering by Design kept the comfort coming with an amazing mac and cheese bar, taco bar, donut and ice cream station and late night snacks of s’mores. Guests enjoyed an evening of dancing beneath the beautiful Colorado sky.

Special thank you to Spruce Mountain Ranch for allowing Kate and Matt’s dog Barlow be on the property. He was involved in the ceremony with his handsome rosemary collar and he stayed up all night on the dance floor with guests!

This spring, we love seeing some fresh and unique color combinations. One of our favorites is the stunning arrangement of mint, emerald and blush. Add a dash of gold in your details for a pop of shine! We love the exciting details such as polka-dot tights, hombre cake and petals in cocktails! And of course, Claire Pettibone is a special favorite wedding gown designer of ours!

Abby wanted to balance rustic warmth with an overall elegant feeling for her intimate wedding. What better way to do that than have the ceremony on top of Beaver Creek Mountain with the beautiful fall foliage in the background then move to the modern but elegant private room at 8100 restaurant in the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek?

The top of the mountain set the scene for a true Colorado wedding ceremony. We brought in fall colors to compliment the trees with large florals from Plum Sage and lined the aisle with fall leaves. Instead of having the adorable flower girl drop rose petals, she dropped brightly colored fall leaves as she came down the path. Abby’s brother-in-law officiated the ceremony as two close family friends sang for the processional. Instead of doing a traditional unity candle ceremony, we wanted to bring in a unique rustic idea. Abby and Rocky burned their initials into an aspen box which held letters that they wrote to each other. They will read the letters on their one year anniversary and their bucket list so they never forget their dreams.

Unique wood signs lined the paths for guests as they made their way down the chairlift to cocktail hour and reception at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek. We brought in elegant luxury with fabulous linens, including a textured rosette linen for the head table. Pink Monkey Solutions transformed the reception space from a modern room to a romantic oasis with the use of fabric, lighting, white furniture and a touch of crystals. Plum Sage Flowers went above and beyond when it came to the floral design for this celebration. They built an eight foot tall wooden cross for the ceremony site, wrapped vases in aspen birch, and burned the couples initials into wood pieces that hung from mason jars. Abby and Rocky’s love and dedication could be found in every component of their wedding!

Most of Abby and Rocky’s guests were from out of town so we wanted to send them home with a touch of Colorado. We had apple pie jam made right here in Colorado from Plum Daisy, and then had specialty labels and a creative crate made for a fabulous favor display. Abby wrote a list of all the things that she loved about Rocky and had them printed on a sign that said “He” and Rocky did the same for her on a sign that said “She”, we watched as guests read the signs and became teary eyed throughout the night.

One of my favorite elements was an aspen arch that we designed for the lounge. We knew the lounge would have clean lines, white couches and an amber glow but we needed a bit of rustic charm. We had Plum Sage create an aspen tree “arch” which we placed against the wall. Hanging from the arch was a sign that said “Every love story is beautiful but ours is my favorite” and had engagement pictures hung with twine and ribbon beneath the sign. This wall was an absolute hit at the wedding!

The Park Hyatt provided a wonderful four course Colorado-inspired meal for guests who then enjoyed the lovely designer cake from Intricate Icings.

As I said before, I could go on and on about this wedding and wonderful family but I think the pictures will speak for themselves.

Thank you to Abby, her mom and her sister for letting me play such a big role in this very important day. I loved working with you and love even more that we have formed a friendship that will last for ages.

We love both  of these ideas from JS Design, here in Denver. You can add stationery anywhere in your wedding – this couple chose to wrap their silverware in it! We also love the little flag in a cocktail! JS Design specializes in letterpress and does amazing inspiration designs for her clients. To learn more about letterpress, see our blog.

These two ideas come from Sweet Zion Paperie here in Denver. We love the confetti found in the envelope (how festive!) and the stitched on burlap on the wedding program. Anything that combines texture and beauty into stationery is alright with us!

You can also get creative with your reception using fun stationery ideas! These are courtesy of Cloud 9 Papers, and are delicate and beautiful. We love both ideas for guest seating – the first image has names hanging from tree branches, while the second image has the names placed in cut logs.

Letterpress – This is probably our favorite type of stationery. It has a texture and an amazing feel to it. Thick, hearty and inviting! Letterpress has been around since the mid-15th century. It involves composing the type (the wording or script) and placing it in the bed of a press, inking the type and pressing paper against it to form an impression. This picture is courtesy of our blog here!

Thermography – This style of printing also offers a texture, but the exact opposite of letterpress. Thermographic printing is a raised format where you can feel the letters on top of the paper. The printing relies on heat to create the letters or images on paper. You can find this invitation here.

Flat Printing – This technique is the most common and can be seen in many places – from books to posters to wedding invitations. It is the most affordable choice for invitations. It is a technique where the font or image is from a plate to the printing surface – most commonly paper. These invitations were found here!

We had such a great time working with Lee and Travis to plan their Colorado destination wedding in Steamboat Springs. We worked closely with Lee throughout the planning and design process to create a stunning New York City style wedding in the middle of a ranch in the mountains. The views and location at Catamount Ranch are absolutely amazing and we took advantage of it by creating a stunning ceremony setting with a custom built cherry wood aisle and platform. We covered the platform and aisle with white petals and used metal lanterns overflowing with florals to add depth to rows of seating. The stunning aspen bark chuppah was draped with sheer fabric, hanging orchids and accented with potted aspen trees. After the inspiring Hindu-American wedding ceremony, guest enjoyed cocktail hour complete with a draped tent, lounge furniture and floral-adorned cocktail tables with passed appetizers and champagne.

As cocktail hour ended, we invited guests into the stunning draped tent flanked with uplighting and chandeliers. Guest tables were adorned with neutral tones, abundant candle light, potted aspen trees, stunning white florals, exquisite linens and mirage chairs. After enjoying a dinner of Indian-American fusion cuisine, guests danced the night away to Diamond Orchestra and there was even some crowd surfing involved!

We love this idea, found here. String cut flower blooms in empty glass bottles as decoration for your dining table.
