We LOVE this incredible rustic elegance mountain wedding! The pictures show all the amazing elements - our absolutely gorgeous bride and groom, stunning flowers, a picture perfect fall snow day and creative Colorado wedding details. We worked with Becky and Andy for six months prior to their destination Colorado wedding in October. They had the venue and a few vendors prior to contacting us. They used our assistance to tie together details, do a few site visits, email photos of specific venue details, contract remaining vendors and finalize the design elements. We also coordinated all details of the wedding day at Peaceful Valley Ranch in Lyons, Colorado. We didn’t meet Becky and Andy until the wedding week but they felt like old friends after all of our emails and phone calls during the wedding planning process. Thank you both for being incredible clients over the past year!

Our vendor team was outstanding. Special thank you to Sweet Celebrations, Nobility Strings, Ad Hoc Entertainment, AKHaydon Floral Design, Gary Dempsey Pianist, Rev Diane Reiss, Unique Touch Photography, A Boulder Affair and Raecom Productions.

Here are some beautiful pictures from Shurie and Tony’s September 26th Estes Park wedding at the lovely Della Terra Mountain Chateau. Shurie and her mother Tammy put together a beautiful and creative wedding using chocolate brown and pink as their colors. The centerpieces were created using unique clear glass vases from CB2 with the flowers provided by Brigitte and her team at Floral Design of Europe. The girl’s hair and make-up was provided by the wonderful stylists of Liquid. This was my first time working with a horse-drawn carriage, and what a great experience it was. For the processional the guests lined up to toss leaves on the couple as they passed on the carriage, and Shurie and Tony chose Tender Grass Carriages for this and they did a fabulous job.

We kicked off the reception inside the Chateau with music provided by Amore DJ Entertainment and the guests enjoyed the savory dinner by Jubilations Catering. The cake was a stunning cascade of cherry blossoms contrasted by the deep chocolate surface created by Marci at Colorado Rose Cake. We also love working with Chris at Premium Digital Solutions, who provided videography for their big day.

Thanks so much to Jennifer from JSP Weddings - we can’t say how great and smooth it was to work with Jennifer. She was able to blend into the scenery and really capture those tender moments.

Working with Robin and Jason has been such a great experience! Robin is super adorable and Jason is hilarious. Their Labor Day Weekend wedding at the beautiful Arrowhead Golf Club in Littleton had perfect weather, unique details and great friends and family! With beautiful flowers by the talented Dani Cammon of Bear Grass and makeup by Natosha Cooke of Aphrodite Affairs, they were picture perfect for Autumn Burke Photography.
We loved the simple and elegant chuppah from Artistic Arch & Chuppah Rental by Arc de Belle against the backdrop of those stunning red rocks.
The guests rocked out to music coordinated by A Music Plus and Chase N the Dream, and they had the dance floor packed! The adorable cake was provided by Das Meyer. And a huge thanks to the staff at Arrowhead, especially Kelly Haas!

On a sunny day in mid-August, two of the most superb people got married - Marnie and Wes! At the lovely Rembrandt Yard which boasts floor to ceiling windows overlooking beautiful downtown Boulder and the foothills, we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day. The ladies looked gorgeous, thanks to the staff at Pompadours Salon in Boulder and they carried bouquets created by Lara with Fiori Flowers.

The reception was set as a modern lounge feel and it was created by Kirk with RC Special Events. The food was divine and the drink was flowing, all with the help of Jeremy at Occasions by Sandy.

And Peneplain Jazz Project had the guests on the dance floor all night!

Thank you so much to Butch and Kelsy at Photography by McCartney for these stunning photographs!

Commitment Ceremonies in Colorado

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Commitment ceremonies are very special to me and I’ve been lucky enough to coordinate (as well as be a guest) at quite a few of them. One of the first ceremonies I planned was for a LGBT couple out of Austin, Texas. The service was one of the most emotional and tear-filled ceremonies I have been to – I actually had to start passing out tissues right in the middle of the ceremony!

Commitment ceremonies are not recognized by the federal government, and there may be no legal benefits to being joined in this way. These ceremonies are purely to celebrate the love, devotion and togetherness of a couple.

The structure of a commitment ceremony is very similar to the traditional marriage ceremony. Each couple brings their own special touches that are unique to their relationship, but commitment ceremonies have the same important components such as the greeting from your officiant, the vows (usually written together with the officiant) and the exchange of rings. The pronouncement of marriage will be slightly different from the traditional ceremony. The traditional, “I now pronounce you man and wife” is commonly replaced with something along the lines of “I now pronounce this couple united as one”.

After the ceremony, couples can register their commitment at the International Commitment Ceremonies Registrar, www.unionoflove.com. This organization collects and stores searchable records of ceremonies that have been performed all over the world. At this point there are over 4,500 people who’ve registered.

If you are planning a commitment ceremony in Colorado and need assistance with anything from finding the best invitations, to the tastiest caterer, to the perfect officiant, we would be delighted to help.

Real Wedding in Breckenridge Colorado

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

We can’t say enough kind words to describe Amy and Doug. They are amazing individuals and so perfect together. They have the biggest hearts and we truly miss having them as clients. Amy and Doug loved all things vintage and also wanted a hint of cowboy country incorporated into their wedding. We started working with both of them in January to make their vision come to life.

They got married on June 27th at Elk Ridge Ranch in Breckenridge, Colorado. The stunning outdoor ceremony was followed by a casual cocktail hour at Elk Ridge Ranch. Amy and Doug departed in a vintage truck with their beloved dogs riding in the back. Guests were shuttled to Salt Creek Saloon in Breckenridge for a gourmet dinner and rockin‘ reception. Our favorite bluegrass band, Kort McCumber kept guests entertained all evening. Plum Sage provided beautiful flowers in vintage glass jars that Amy has been collecting for years. Intricate Icings created the perfect cake for Amy and Doug.

We LOVE these photos provided by the super talented Rachael Grace. You can see more pictures on Rachael’s Blog. You can also see the fabulous engagement photos she posted here.

Debbie worked with Amy and Doug to plan their wedding then Gabby and Shelby from Save the Date Events took over and perfectly coordinated the many details and logistics of the wedding weekend.

Real Wedding Vail Colorado

Friday, June 26th, 2009

What a great couple Jennifer and Tim are! Their wedding in Vail Colorado was gorgeous, despite the rain. In fact, the rain made it all the more memorable! The ring bearer was their adorable yellow lab named Baxter. The evening was a blast! Their guests danced the night away, and had a wonderful time.

The wedding was at the lovely Vail Racquet Club, and the wonderful wedding flowers were created by Amore Fiori. Jennifer and Tim had an incredible wedding cake, thanks to Intricate Icings.

I loved working with Jennifer and her family through the planning process. They are so warm and caring. We wish you the absolute best in your lives together!

Real Wedding Boulder Colorado - Chelsea and Mike

Monday, June 15th, 2009
{Custom Unity Candles}

{Stunning cake with an entire table of chocolate covered strawberries}

{Classy and fun wedding programs}

{Super sweet candy buffet}

It was so touching to enjoy my first wedding of the season with such a special couple. Chelsea and Mike were incredibly sweet and their friends and family were wonderful as well. Despite a few rain showers, the day went smoothly and beautifully. The ceremony was lovely and I *think* I saw a tear in the groom’s eye when the bride walked down the aisle!!

After a wonderful dinner presented in synchronized service by Boulder Country Club, the guests enjoyed dancing (and competitive table-cheering!!) This group was so enthusiastic and all-around happy that it made for such a wonderful time! I am so thankful to have been a part of their special day.

Thank you to Bella Fiori Events for the fabulous flowers and to Simplicity Cakes for a stunning cake.

Wedding Day Make-Up Tips

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Every Colorado bride wants to look beautiful, fresh and radiant on her wedding day. We suggest pampering yourself and getting a make-over by a professional for your big day. I have worked with many great professional make-up artists, but by far my favorite cosmetic brand is MAC cosmetics.

MAC was founded in 1984 by a fashion photographer and a hair stylist. Their experience in the fashion industry led them to recognize the need for more durable, versatile and creative cosmetics products. These products would need to be able to handle the demands of runway shows, theater productions and photo shoots. With these things in mind, they set about creating their line.

MAC has since produced many great lines of rich colors, sturdy foundations and long lasting lip colors. This is why I recommend it so highly to our brides. MAC make-up is designed to last all day, in the heat or humidity, through tears and sweat and many other wedding make-up emergencies.

I also strongly recommend false eyelashes. Although most ladies never wear these nowadays, the wedding day is the perfect time to put them to use. Your photographs will turn out splendidly and your eyes will be open, awake and lush. The lashes, when applied by a professional, will stay on throughout the day and into the evening.

You will always want to set up an appointment with your make-up artist ahead of time, in order to do a trial run of the color and style of your make-up. I would recommend doing this a few months before your Colorado wedding so you have time to revise your make-up plan if necessary.

Look into the MAC make-up line and let your beauty shine on your wedding day!

Alternatives to Diamond Engagement Rings

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

For centuries, the diamond has been the stone of choice in engagement rings. This trend was likely started by Archduke Maximillian of Austria, who gave a diamond betrothal ring to his intended, Mary of Burgundy. This prompted a diamond ring fad among the European royalty and the upper classes. In the 500 years since then, men have been bestowing their ladies with diamond engagement and wedding rings.

However, tradition is not always closely followed nowadays. Ladies propose to their men, couples pay for their own weddings, the Maid-of-Honor is sometimes the Man-of-Honor and dogs have played the role of the ring-bearer! And when it comes to rings, I love the idea of breaking tradition! Who says a girl must receive a diamond engagement ring?

If you are daring, dramatic, or just want something extremely unique, I suggest a precious gemstone ring. There are so many different styles, colors and cuts, and the clarity and quality of gemstones are held to the same high standards that diamonds are.

Gemstone engagement rings – just as diamond engagement rings – can vary from a solitaire to a gemstone in a diamond cluster setting and everything in between. Many designers make them, but one of my personal favorites is Vera Wang. She knows how to create beautiful, classic pieces that are also unique.

The best part is that gemstone rings are often more affordable than diamonds. Not because they aren’t rare, but because they are more readily available to jewelers and consumers and aren’t controlled by a single distributor.

My own ring is a yellow citrine set in a cluster of diamonds, and I really enjoy having something that is a break from tradition. I get lots of compliments on it, and am proud to have a precious gemstone as the center of my wedding set instead of a diamond.

If you are in the market for a fun, stylish and unique ring, consider a colored gemstone!

Top Ten Wedding Faux Pas by Wedding Guests {Part Two}

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

6. Waiting to Give a Gift - Contrary to popular belief, guests do not have a year to send a gift.

7. RSVP - RSVP does not mean you only respond if you can’t make it. It does not mean that you assume the bride knows you are coming. It should be mailed back promptly, preferably long before the date indicated on the card.

8. Toasts - Do not embarrass the bride or groom with inappropriate comments during a toast.

9. Getting Drunk - Don’t drink too much. You are there to celebrate with the newlyweds, not embarrass yourself and them.

10. Dressing Inappropriately - If the ceremony will be held in a church, guests may not be able to wear sundresses, short skirts, shorts, and other revealing or casual attire, including baseball caps. Do not wear caps, jeans, or shorts to any wedding except a very informal outdoor gathering.

Top Ten Wedding Faux Pas by Wedding Guests {Part One}

Monday, April 20th, 2009

We’ve already covered what the bride and groom shouldn’t do.  Here are the top faux pas created by wedding guests.

1. Bringing Your Kids - If the invitation is addressed to Mr. and Mrs., your children are not invited.

 2. Arriving Late - Take into account extra time for traffic snarls, bad directions and last minute runs to the convenience store. If you plan to arrive 15 minutes early, you’ll most likely just make it. No one should walk down the aisle after the bride. If you arrive late, try to slip in quietly down a side aisle.

3. Not Giving a Gift - Sending a gift indicates your support and best wishes for the happy couple who are starting their lives together.  Even if you can’t attend, send a gift.

4. Your Ringing Cell Phone - It’s the height of rudeness to allow a personal call to interrupt any part of the wedding day.

5.  Rearranging Seating - As a guest, do not move place cards or rearrange the seating chart.

Come back on Wednesday for part two or subscribe here in a reader.

Top Ten Wedding Faux Pas by the Bride and Groom {Part Two}

Friday, April 17th, 2009

6. Stranded Dates - Don’t create a painful experience for your attendants’ dates. Seat dates together with the wedding party at the reception.

7. Wedding Party Expenses - There is the cost of bridesmaid dresses, travel costs, shower expenses, bachelorette party and multiple gifts. That can add up to a small fortune. Keep those expenses in mind when planning.

8. Pre-Party Invite Only - Inviting guests to pre-wedding events where a gift is required (i.e. bridal shower or engagement party) and then not inviting them to the actual wedding is a big no-no.

9. Stranded Guests - If your wedding reception and ceremony locations are far apart or far from accommodations, you should provide guest transportation.

10. Using Your Monogram Before Your Ceremony - Technically, you aren’t married until after the ceremony. Using a monogram with your married last name initial shouldn’t be used on invitations, save the dates or ceremony programs.

Top Ten Wedding Faux Pas by the Bride and Groom {Part One}

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

1. Cash Bars - We realize this is sometimes unavoidable due to budget contraints however, skipping the limo or live band is much better than having your guests pay for their own drinks at your party.

2. Long Wait Time Between Ceremony and Reception - Long pauses between the ceremony and reception are generally very hard on guests.  If you cannot book the reception venue immediately following the ceremony, arrange for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at another location.

3. Registry Information On Your Invitations - Do we have to elaborate?  It is completely unacceptable to mention anything about gifts or registries in your wedding invitation or enclosures.

4. Money Dance - Your wedding night is not the opportunity to ask your guests to spend more money on you. They have already traveled, bought a new outfit, and gave you a wedding gift.

5. Thank You Notes - You must send handwritten thank-you notes

On Friday, we’ll post the last five!
